Posters
Here are posters from different films. They are all affective for different ways. Those ways will be explained next to the different poster.
This poster displays all of the student protagonists of the harry potter franchise. The poster is effective for its simple one line slogan. It is very easy to remember, because it is only three words long. The release date of the film stands out, for it is in a large bold prints compared to the writing surrounding it. This means that the audience can easily pick out the date. The use of the dark background reflects the slogan of the film. The darkness of the background represents unease and danger. This is what the film is about. The white light behind the protagonists show that they are the ones who will help fight the darkness of the world that surrounds them.

This poster is in black and white. This is effective, because there are no colours to distract the audience. The saying at the top of the page sums up the the murderer, but if you haven't seen the film the saying can lead you on. It is really integrating.
The poster is simple in its image, for it is just a scared looking girl. This can reflect on how scary the actual film is, for the film was revolutionary in the horror genre. The title is clearly laid out in bold, spaced out text. This is so you can easily see the title of the film at a distance. |
This is a simple poster with the logo of the Jurassic Park films.
The slogan of this poster is underneath the logo. This is so it emphasises the logo above. The background is black, which makes the colours in the logo stand out. The colours in the logo are bright, which makes the image of the dinosaur stand out a lot more. The simpleness of the poster is effective, because then the audience won't have to remember lots of things on it. The logo is also simple, so by seeing the logo anywhere, the audience can immediately think of this poster. |
This poster has got three words at the top of it. Theses words are simple and easy to remember. This is so, if the audience sees the words, they can immediately think of the film.
The colours of the poster is mainly dark. This can represent the darkness and evil that is within the film. The date of release of the film is in a bold red colour. This is a contrast on what is already on the poster, for that bit of colour really stands out. The image on the poster shows a shattered mirror and a skull behind this. This can mean that the image of the person in the mirror will die. It has been destined. |
The black of this poster can show ambiguity. This means that we don,t know what is going on.
This poster has its little saying above all of the names at the bottom of the poster. The saying isn't noticed much for it is slightly bigger and whiter than the names. This can represent that it is meant to be overlooked, for then it reflects the saying. Only the title and release date is in red. This makes them stand out on the monochrome poster. The red represents blood, which there is a lot in the film. |
From looking at film posters I have concluded that they tend to have:
1) A bold clear title.
Film posters seem to have a large title. This is so the audience can see the title of the film from a distance.
2) A Saying.
The posters tend to have a saying with them. Weather the saying is only a few words, or several sentences. these sayings can be easily remembered and leading. The audience will see the words at the top of the poster and remember them. These words may bug them until they see the film and understand what the words mean.
