BBFC means the 'British Board of Film Classification'. It is a non-governmental body that classifies cinema films. It was set up in 1912 and has been classifying films, videos and DVD's ever since. There are several different ratings and here they are:
The ratings mean different things and can apply to different situations. This is a table of the different ratings and what they mean:
A horror film tends to have the rating of 15 or 18. Our target audience's age range is 15-21. If we have a horror of the age rating 12, then the film won't be scary, because you can't have some of the sub-genres (supernatural, slasher, etc.). For example, slasher would have too much violence for a 15. An 18 would have a limited audience in the cinema, because then they cannot make a profit from the children that are of the age 15 or 16 that are in to the horror genre.
For our horror we will use the age rating of 15. Then we can still use the generic horror themes and also target a large age audience that will watch it.
